Grade 4-2 Parent Information
I am so happy to be able to welcome all of the students back to school!! J We have been working hard to prepare for the beginning of this new school year. I have also put together information on some basic class routines that may be helpful for you to be aware of that are specific to this class. You may want to keep this for reference throughout the year. Please remember, as I’m sure you already know, things are always changing and evolving.
Planners
This year students have all been given a planner, which was you as a family have purchased. This is a VERY important tool used by the students to help them organize their homework and reminders. Important information such as passwords will also be recorded in their planner. Students are given time at the end of each day to write in their planner. They will record reminders, homework or something happened that day. Every school day should always have some entry written by your child. Also watch for notes that are brought home from school, which are to be stored in their “planner pocket”.
I also use the planner as a communication book between home and school. I (or your child) will often write messages regarding any daily events that you may need to be aware of or want to share with you. I encourage you to use it in the same manner. If your child is being picked up early, will be absent, or there are any other circumstances that I should be aware of, please note them in his/her planner. It is especially important if any end of the day routines are different. This allows me to help students navigate changes (ie. being picked up instead of going on the bus, Uncle Joe is picking up today, etc.)
I will “check” planners for students daily at the beginning and end of the day. I stamp or initial the planners I have checked at the end of the day (keep in mind this may not ALWAYS happen if I have a substitute).
Please initial the planner each day so that I know that all the information has been communicated with you at home.
Homework
If students have any homework, it will be noted in their planners. Please check them daily to see what work needs to be completed and by when. Homework assignments should be minimal. If you child is away for an extended period of time or you are aware in advance that your child will be away from class and you would like assignments that they will miss, please let me know and I will try my best to get assignments together for you.
Lunches and Snacks
Please be aware that students do not have access to a microwave, therefore should bring food items that do not require heating or are in a thermos. Happy Thought School is “Allergy Aware. Students are asked to refrain from bringing any products to school containing peanuts, tree nuts and fish or “traces of” these ingredients. Students are also encouraged NOT to share food with classmates to reduce the risk of others eating “unsafe foods” and for social distancing reasons.
Students are asked to bring water bottles to school that have been filled at home. There are water-filling stations available if needed. Water fountains will not be accessible at this time.
Other Forms and Money
Throughout the school year, there may be order forms, permission slips, etc. coming home for various reasons. Please fill-out any necessary forms and return them to school before the stated due dates (the sooner the better). Please place in the front planner pocket!!
Any forms that are accompanied by money should be put in a sealed envelope or Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it. Please make a note of any payments/forms sent into school in your child’s planner as a record of payments being sent. This is helpful in case your child in unaware that it is to be handed in or has been misplaced. It alerts me that I know to look for it. If you have more than one child attending Happy Thought School, please send forms/monies to each child’s homeroom teacher separately. This is greatly appreciated by all teachers. 💕
NEW: If you have accessed the new E-Transfer option for payments, please indicate in your child’s planner that you have paid through e-transfer so I’m aware. This way I am aware without bothering our Very busy secretaries for lists. It would be Much appreciated!!
Miss Kalyta’s Website
You can access my website via the Happy Thought School website. Here you will find several resources that can help your child at school. Over the years I have collected many links for websites to help students practice math skills, research, or practice science and social studies concepts, etc. There is also a page with various examples (and some videos) of the math strategies taught in class that parents find useful if/when trying to help their children at home.
Unfortunately, I don’t always keep it as up to date as I would like to, but a lot of the information and resources are fluid and can be valuable when needed.
If you have any questions throughout the year, please feel free to write a message in your child’s planner or send an email to [email protected]. A link to my email is also available via my website. Phone calls are welcome but I’m usually teaching the students so don’t be surprised if I’m not available. I will call you back though.
